Welcome to Mix By Mail!

Mix By Mail is a new music and art sharing and discussion community with a primary focus on monthly mix swaps. MBM was created by the legendary duo of Mariah Maines and Amy White in 2000-and-something. When you sign up, you can choose to participate in the monthly mix swap (the best part!), or you can choose to opt out of it and use only the website, which still allows you to participate in polls, blogs, online art, music and web media, events, and other things that the site has to offer. We will eventually need forum moderators, so email Mariah (mainzoid) or myself (dasium) if you are interested. Also, get people to sign up, because the more people we have, and the more diversity there is on the site, the more awesome the mixes will be!

May 3: Hey everyone! Mix assignments will be sent out on the sixth. I am going to try to implement some more accurate matching in terms of music genres by then. I'll get more done after May 20th. I'm busy moving and working on finals at the moment.

April 20: Jeez. I've been busy. I'm going to get to what I said on April 14th pretty soon, and I'm also going to redo the events stuff so that it's more musically inclined, like have options to upload show fliers and things. I also want to integrate it with RSS feeds from local show guides and stuff, and create different event categories for different cities, etc. So hopefully soon...

April 14: You can now make friends and keep them in a fancy little list! To add a friend, go to their profile page and click the "Add as Friend" link (it might not be named exactly that, but I'm in a hurry right now). To view your friends, go to the "community" section of your profile, or navigate to "My Friends" under the "MBM Community" menu section on the left side of the page. Events calendar will be up soon! Also, there is a slight logout problem that occasionally happens. If you log out and then realize that it looks like you're still logged in, or see an "Access Denied" error, just close the window or tab, or clear your browser cache.

April 13: Calendar is up! Friendship stuff is fixed! Next step: set up a feed on the homepage of the most popular recent items on the site, import/export options (RSS feeds specifically), and share links so that people can share off-site content on the site, or vice versa with the click of a button. Let me know if there's anything I should add. I haven't gotten any feedback on site features yet.

April 12: Setting up events calendar, front page, and fixing friendship status stuff. The front page is going to have some content, like maybe feeds of events or something, not sure yet, but it won't just be this blog entry and info. Mix assignments get sent out tonight!

April 11: I had set up the friendlist module, which allows people to send and receive friend requests and that sort of thing, but the module turned out to be somewhat buggy and lacking certain features, and some features that is had are non-intuitive (for example, having to go to a particular person's profile page to see if they sent you a friend request.) So I'm working on fixing that on my own. It should be up in a few days. Emails go out tomorrow with the address of the person to send your mixes to.

April 9: I'm working on adding some social network functionality, so you can have friend lists and profiles and things like that. I get real busy on Monday so I am hoping to get it up and running nicely this weekend. Also, I know some of the site is kind of slow, and this is due to the way I implemented access permissions for certain modules on the site that were not working correctly. I'm working on making it faster. Also, thanks to everyone who is signing up! It's gonna be awesome!
